GSX9000™ Advantages
High-density hardware: The GSX9000 is a compact, high-performance system that reduces space requirements 20:1 over circuit switches, lowering operational costs for cooling, power and facilities. The GSX9000 supports high-density circuit interfaces including T1, DS3, E1 and OC3/STM-1/STM-0, as well as IP, ATM and POS packet interfaces. The sturdy GSX9000 chassis provides 16 slots, two of which are reserved for Redundant Management Network servers (MNS). The 14 remaining slots can be populated with any combination of Packet Network Server (PNS) or Circuit Network Server (CNS) interface modules. With the GSX9000's breakthrough hardware implementation, large central office configurations of over 100,000,000 ports can be created.
Toll-quality voice: The GSX9000 provides the quality of service required for IP and ATM networks. For IP, the GSX9000 supports Type of Service (TOS) bits that allow carriers to provision priorities on a call-by-call basis. Toll-quality voice is enabled using the G.711 codec. Other compressed codec’s, such as G.729A, G.723.1 and G.726, may also be used, as well as, G.729B and G.711 with silence suppression, where bandwidth is especially expensive. The GSX9000 also uses world-class G.168 echo cancellation algorithms to further assure high quality voice. This attention to quality, combined with the very low delay inherent in the GSX9000, provides voice quality that is equal to or better than the PSTN.
Carrier-class reliability: The GSX9000 is NEBS-compliant and provides fully redundant configurations that are designed for 99.999% availability. Interface modules provide 1+1 redundancy, maintaining active calls upon switchover. Optical interface modules also support Automatic Protection Switching for the fastest switchover to redundant optical facilities. Like other established infrastructure products, the GSX9000 supports live software upgrades, allowing the network to remain up and running while implementing new functionality.
Easy-to-use network management: The GSX9000 is easily managed by the Sonus Insight™ Management System, which allows service providers to leverage existing Operations Support Systems (OSS) while maintaining tight control of packet voice infrastructures. Sonus Insight includes two main applications, the Element Management System (EMS) for configuration, provisioning and alarm reporting, as well as, the DataStream Integrator (DSI™) for billing mediation and performance data, both of which seamlessly integrate into existing back-office systems. Sonus Insight provides comprehensive, programmable, easy-to-use capabilities that allow staff members to manage the GSX9000 from virtually any location.
